Impact and Aspiration
A wise man once said "Do not go where the path may lead. Instead, go where there is no path and leave a trail" and that's a quote that I, Fatima Arbee, live by. Giving people a reason to smile, as well as leaving my mark, has always been my greatest joy.
Walking into the ER for the very first time at the age of 9. An innocent little girl not aware that her life was about to change forever. She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (Aggressive Type 1 Diabetes) and over the course of 9 years it only got more severe. She was in and out of hospital for the longest periods of time, constantly feeling helpless and frustrated as everyone around her told her she was not taking care of herself although she would wake up every day and fight for her life. She got tired of explaining herself to everyone and eventually lost her voice in the process.
9 beautiful years later and that same helpless little girl is ready to make her come back. Stronger than ever and ready to take on the world. Here I am. Whether someone hears me or not I’m going to speak up for myself and stand up for what I believe in. I want to bring light and give hope to others that have been through similar journeys because after all, We aren’t broken. We are ETHEREAL. And it is perfectly okay to be one hundred percent YOU.
The condition of my immune system does not define me
My passion to research and understand the immune system as well as other illnesses has grown abundantly from a very young age. I have made ambition and honor my best friends because I am ambitious about being academically accomplished but I also plan on using my academic accomplishments to do honorable work. I want to share my wisdom and experiences along side my academics to be behind the scenes, finding the solution to autoimmune diseases.
I truly have faith that one day, we will.
Until then, I will continue to walk my journey, travel the world, and continue to discover the beauty in the little things that don't catch a lot of people's attention. My mission is to encourage others to speak up and OWN who they are but more importantly I would like to spread awareness and educate people on topics that are often overlooked and not taken seriously.
